“There is no greater love than this; to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” – John 15:13

I see this sacrificial love in the example of many married couples where spouses are taking good and faithful care of each other, especially when one of the spouses is sick or suffering. I see this amazing love when children and grandchildren faithfully take care
of aging parents and grandparents, and parents and grandparents taking care of children and grandchildren! I see this wondrous love in the way that farmers and those who till the earth do so with a great reverence and respect for God’s created world! This
powerful example is evident in young couples professing their love for each other in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. I encounter this profound love in people caring for elderly neighbors and family members. And this sacrificial love, this greatest love of all
– it can be so challenging!

Despite other people’s idiosyncrasies, love one another. Despite the hurtful words and actions that someone causes us again and again, love one another. Despite the bitterness or grudge we struggle with, love one another. Are we courageous enough
to actually and authentically live it? By our faith in Jesus Christ, and following his example, let us continue to strive to live out this great commandment of love! It is a joy and honor to offer these spiritual reflections for you! In all things, may God be praised!
